Meet the artist: Naomi Howarth

The costume designer turned illustrator has caught the eye of brands including Dior

Having studied costume design at London College of Fashion before turning her hand to illustration, Naomi Howarth has a sartorial knowledge that proved invaluable when she was asked to design a set of tarot cards for the Dior Cruise 2017 party.

“Christian Dior was very superstitious and always carried lucky charms with him,” says Howarth. “I had a lot of fun researching different symbols for luck and good fortune from around the world, and incorporating them into my designs.”

The Edinburgh-born, London-based illustrator is a woman of many talents: she creates bespoke invitations, decorates homeware and has just released her second picture book, Tug of War, with the publisher Frances Lincoln. There’s another children’s book and a potential move into ceramics on the cards, so it seems as if Fortune is certainly favouring this talented young artist.
