The A List: 4 January

Winter sun in Hawaii, plus an intimate insight into the life of Richard Avedon

Hawaiian Paddle Sports A brilliant company with the best surf guides I have ever encountered. All five of my tweens/teens adored them and the photos they took with the GoPro were legendary.

Maui Dive Shop These guys make the perfect day diving even more perfect. Book the boat for yourself and enjoy an amazing day out scuba diving or snorkeling with sea turtles, manta rays and white-tipped sharks.

Kiini These multi-coloured bikinis combine Spandex and crocheted yarn to create magical combinations for any sunny holiday.

Avedon: Something Personal by Norma Stevens (£30, William Heinemann) A confiding, compelling story of a man who for half a century was an enormous influence on both high and popular culture, fashion and art—to this day he remains the only artist to have had two retrospectives at the Metropolitan Museum of Art during his lifetime. Not unlike Richard Avedon’s own defining portraits, the book reveals the person beneath the surface, with all his contradictions and complexities and in all his touching humanity.

Dolce & Gabbana A brand-new temple to D&G in all its glittering glory has finally arrived on Bond Street. Make sure to check out the girls’ party dresses and coats – absolutely divine for special occasions.
